The Low Income Housing Tax Credit program, often referred to as the LIHTC or simply the housing tax credit, is a federal program in the United States that encourages the development and preservation of affordable rental housing for low-income households. It was established under the Tax Reform Act of 1986 and is administered by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Developers of LIHTC projects build or rehabilitate affordable rental housing units. To be eligible for LIHTC, these units must be made available to individuals and families with low to moderate incomes.

The City of Lewisville (“City”) prioritizes the preservation and construction of high quality, affordable housing units that are located close to amenities, transportation, and jobs. In support of such efforts, the City is accepting applications for a resolution of support for 2024 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credits.

Applications are due to the City by December 31, 2024. Applicants are required to engage local residents early in the development process by holding a community engagement meeting. For 2024 applications, community engagement must take place on or before January 17, 2025. Your project will not be eligible for city council consideration until the conclusion of the community meeting. Please see the application for more details.

Please submit your applications to ecodev@cityoflewisville.com.
